Rock-n-Read all through June and July with the Marathon Library's Summer Reading program!


As always, you can turn in a reading log each week to win prizes. Each week will also have a theme based on a musical genre.

  • June 8-13: Rock

  • June 15-20: Folk

  • June 22-27: Hip-Hop

  • June 29-July 4: Country

  • July 6-11: Classical

  • July 13-18: EDM

  • July 20-25: K-Pop

Thursday, June 4, 10:30 am: Summer Reading Begins With Marine Lab

Come get your Summer Reading welcome packets, and Marine Lab will be here to show you how to make your own "plankton" and race it.


Thursday, June 11, 10:30 am: Marathon Steel Drum Band

Enjoy the sounds of our local steel drum band and learn the basics of steel drums.


Get ready for an engaging music concert with Miss Patty, the YouTube superstar for kids! A learning adventure you won't want to miss.


The Florida Keys Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will be here to show off some animals and talk about their mission here in the Keys.


Thursday, July 2, 10:30 am: Rocking Through Space

Join NASA Solar System Ambassador Elizabeth Elliott and Florida Keys Astronomy Club member Jay Elliott as we rock through space. Make your own asteroid, hold a 4,700-year-old meteorite, watch as we "cook" up a comet, and discover a secret of some lunar rocks. It will definitely be a rocking good time.


Thursday, July 9, 10:30 am: Monroe County Sheriff's Office Animal Farm

Come see live animals and learn about the Animal Farm's mission in the Florida Keys!


Thursday, July 16, 10:30 am: Mosquito Control

Learn about the fascinating lives of mosquitos and the geology of the area that promotes their growth.


Dinosaur hatching! Who is peeking from this egg? Create a dinosaur egg to go with the plushie baby dinosaur of your choosing and get a free life cycle of the dinosaur!


Thursday, July 30: 10:30 am: End of Summer Reading Party!

Come in to celebrate all you have achieved this summer and see if you won a prize!
