Even if you're not traveling this summer, you can go Coast to Coast and Cover to Cover with Summer Reading at the Big Pine Key Library branch!


Summer Reading starts June 1. Stop by the Library to pick up a reading log and grab a swag bag while supplies last! Then turn in your logs each week to earn prizes!

Monday, June 1, 10-11 am: Summer Reading Kick-off With Do Art Productions

Bring all of your creativity to tackle all the cool and fun things planned!


Learn all about what it takes to turn all the extras in your kitchen into something more useful!


Learn all about baby Sea Turtles and the wonderful journey they take.


Bring your dancing shoes because it's sure to be a fun afternoon of moving and grooving to all of the fun songs with the YouTube superstar!


Tuesday, June 23, 10:30-11:30 am: Story Time with Storyteller and Puppeteer Windell Campbell

Join us at the Big Pine Library for a special super-sized Summer Reading Story Time with special guest Windell Campbell! Get ready for a series of fun and interactive stories with puppets and more.


Thursday, June 25, 10-11 am: Monroe County Sheriff's Office Animal Farm

Join us to learn all about these unique creatures and what makes them special.


Thursday, July 2, 11 am-noon: Monroe County Fire Department

See the tools and equipment that keep our Fire Department and our community safe.


Come and learn about the natural world just outside your window. Prepare to be amazed and complete the day with a cool hands-on activity.


Ever wonder what it takes to keep the bugs at bay? Prepare to learn all the cool things about these flying critters and view them up close under microscopes.


Monday, July 20, 10-11 am: Bahia Honda State Park

Meet the rangers who make the state park a fun filled adventure spot as they share their knowledge about the water, plants, and animals who call the park home. All are welcome.


Friday, July 24, Session 1 10:30-11:30 am; Session 2 11:30 am-12:30 pm: Beakers and Bugs

Dinosaur Hatching presented by Beakers and Bugs. Spots and supplies are limited! Please sign up online for either session 1 or session 2 if you'd like to participate.


Saturday, July 25, 11 am-noon: Rocking Through Space

Join NASA Solar System Ambassador, Elizabeth Elliott and Florida Keys Astronomy Club member, Jay Elliott as we rock through Space at the Big Pine Library. Make your own asteroid, hold a 4700 year old meteorite, watch as we “cook” up a comet and discover a secret of some lunar rocks.


Friday, July 31, 2-5 pm: End of Summer Reading Party!

Celebrate all the reading you've accomplished at the Big Pine Library with the final party of Summer Reading! Fun, games, arts and crafts, and of course MORE prizes!
