1828 – Congress passed a bill establishing a territorial or federal court at Key West under the title of the Superior Court of the Southern Judicial District of the Territory of Florida.


1937 – Sloppy Joe’s Bar had its grand opening at its new location on the corner of Duval and Greene streets at 9:30 p.m. There was free dancing to George Dean’s Swing Band, along with souvenirs for everyone.


1956 – The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company announced it would build a new $75,000 A&P grocery store at 3100 Flagler Avenue in Key West.


1958 – Scientists from Mote Marine Laboratory and the University of Miami proved that shrimp breeding grounds in Florida Bay were directly tied to the shrimp fishing grounds near the Dry Tortugas when shrimp tagged as juveniles near Flamingo were caught as adults over 60 miles westward by shrimp trawlers.


1962 – The Navy announced that the first of the 420 duplex housing units at Sigsbee Park was being occupied.


1975 – The Florida State Unemployment Compensation Bureau in Key West moved from 419 to 421 Caroline Street. Both addresses were within the same building.
