1948 – Fausto Castillo began construction of a new Fausto’s grocery store at the corner of Fleming and Bahama streets in Key West.

1940 – The Navy was building 50 housing units for low-income personnel at the Trumbo Air Base – 17 two-family and 16 single-family buildings. 

2015 – Keys Energy offered the City of Key West its abandoned diesel generator plant, a three-building complex bounded by Angela, Fort, and Geraldine streets. City officials were pleased by the offer, but acceptance of the 100+-year-old “as is” property would ultimately be decided by voters.

1917 - Ground was broken for the first Naval Air Station on Trumbo Point. The new air facility was on land rented from the Florida East Coast Railroad.

1962 – The submarine USS Sea Poacher (SS 406) recorded its 5,000th dive in Gulf Stream waters off Key West. Sea Poacher was launched in 1944 and had been in Key West since 1951.

1930 – The Key West Chamber of Commerce had requested use of a U.S. government airplane to help eradicate mosquitoes.

1975 – Spurred by recent national press coverage, local interest was renewed in the Japanese “Midget C” submarine displayed in Key West.

1909 – The 102-ton schooner Annie Greenlaw was delivered to Key West turtle soup manufacturer Armand Granday.
