A railroad bridge leading to a small island.
The Florida East Coast Railroad's Seven Mile Bridge and Pigeon Key, 1920s

1908 – A tropical storm passed to the west of Key West causing little damage.

1926 – Five young men were arrested at Pigeon Key for traveling on the train as hobos. The men, hatless and unkempt, had no clear itinerary and no plans to work. They were sent to Key West on charges of vagrancy.

1927 – Pan American Airways flew it first flight from the newly constructed Key West International Airport. Pilots Huey Wells and Eddie Musick, carrying 772 pounds of mail, flew the tri-motor Fokker to Havana.

1936 – Cars parked on the highway bridges were becoming a problem in the Florida Keys, with drivers pulling their vehicles over to go fishing. At one point, with idle cars blocking both lanes on the Boca Chica Bridge, the mail truck driver had to stop and ask that the road be cleared.

1954 – Actress Anna Magnani arrived at the Casa Marina Hotel for a few days of rest before filming began on the adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ play “The Rose Tattoo.”
