1912 – The first excursion train left Key West for Long Key. One hundred and twenty-three passengers made the trip which, after a short stay, returned. The round-trip fare was $2.60.


1925 – Two new courses were being offered at Monroe County High School: Domestic Science (aka Home Economics) and Typewriting & Stenography.


1935 – After returning from Miami, Monroe County Sheriff Karl Thompson noted there were many visitors with their own pleasure boats throughout the Keys. He decided a law enforcement officer was needed at Matecumbe and assigned Deputy E.A. Cothron to the job.


1953 – The Key West City Commission took steps to the end the “B-Girl” problem when it passed an ordinance making it unlawful for anyone to solicit the sale of drinks in the city bars.


1977 – The new United States Coast Guard Station at Trumbo Annex was dedicated.


2003 – The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory opened for business at 1316 Duval Street.
