1900 – The Key West Elks Club was established.


1941 – Key West Mayor Willard M. Albury recommended, and the City Commission approved, installation of parking meters on some city streets.


1948 – President Harry Truman arrived at Key West from Washington and rested overnight before leaving for Puerto Rico.


1956 – A serial “panty snatcher” was on the loose in Key West. The thief had stolen women’s underwear from multiple outdoor clothes lines over previous days, most recently off a front porch on Ann Street.


1960 – The Ted Williams-Key West Tarpon Rodeo was opened by Key West Mayor Delio Cobo and baseball great Ted Williams.


1961 – Tensions flared between the Monroe County Fair Committee and local officials over the installation of amusement rides at the Wickers Stadium field. It was thought that the equipment and multitude of visitors might destroy the field’s carefully cultivated sod, which would cost $5,000 to replace.


1966 – A grand opening celebration was held for the new Winn-Dixie supermarket in Key West’s Searstown shopping center.


1967 – Judge J.Y. Porter died at age 57.
