1937 – Dr. C. Williamson, veterinarian with the Florida Board of Health, inspected Key West’s dairies and found they compared favorably with others across the state. He expected that when the grading of Florida dairies was announced, Key West’s would rank high on the list.
1946 – Ella Mary Carlstedt sold eight acres of unimproved land at Rock Harbor on Key Largo to Josephine Jessie Freed for $4,000.
1976 – Pantry Pride Super Market at Key Plaza Shopping Center held its grand opening.
2001 – Officials at BellSouth and the Florida Public Service Commission decided to delay a plan to add the 786 area code in the Florida Keys. Available numbers in the 305 area code were being depleted, but by using conservation measures the changes could be delayed by at least 16 months.
2014 – The Schooner Western Union Preservation Society launched a fundraising campaign to restore the schooner Western Union, the last of the large sailing vessels to be built in Key West. The cost of the needed overhaul was estimated to be over $1 million.
