1986 – The Old Island Restoration Commission approved the moving of a house at 411 Whitehead Street to 709 Thomas Street, so the parking lot of the La Concha Hotel could be expanded as part of the dormant hotel’s renovation before reopening.

1958 – An exhibition of drawings and paintings by Key West author and artist Morgan Dennis opened at the East Martello gallery of the Key West Art & Historical Society. Dennis and his wife Margaret were on hand for the opening.

1960 – The East Martello Tower Museum opened a new exhibit called “The Playhouse,” which featured toys housed in the first playhouse built in Key West.

1911 – Norberg Thomson began construction of a concrete building that would house his cigar box factory on Caroline Street in Key West. The wooden boxes would be used by the local cigar manufactories.

2005 – The Monroe County School Board approved the demolition of the existing Poinciana Elementary School and the construction of a new one.

1935 – Pete “Kid Indian” Nebo defeated Orlando’s Jimmy Wade by decision in a bout held at Key West High School.

A new renovation is restoring prominence to one of Key West's oldest public spaces.
