1956 – The First Baptist Church on Eaton Street at the corner of Bahama Street was destroyed by fire.

1886 – At 10 o’clock in the morning, a fire started near the San Carlos Theater in Key West.

1935 – A group of 10 Key West women went to Pirate’s Cove on Sugarloaf Key for lunch and an afternoon of playing bridge.

1939 – Construction of the cable schooner Western Union was progressing rapidly.

1939 – A Works Progress Administration sewer line project employing 442 Key West men had, to date, laid 20 miles of sewer pipe in the city.

1935 – The Long Key Fishing Camp was hosting its largest group of anglers in five years.

1960 – Students at Key West High School were dismissed for the day after a phone caller warned a bomb was set go off there at 2 p.m.

1911 – Curtiss Aircraft test pilot J.A.W. McCurdy attempted to fly from Key West to Havana but crashed just short of the goal.

After a five-year overhaul of the area, Key West celebrated the grand opening of the city-owned Key West Bight Historic Seaport.

1925 – The Key West sponge fleet left port for their second trip of the season to the sponging grounds near Bahia Honda.
