1899 - Judge J. Vining Harris held an open house at his new home at the ocean end of Duval Street.

1897 – The USS Maine fired warning shots toward schooners leaving Key West to command them to halt.

1862 - The Pennsylvania 47th regiment landed at Key West to relieve New York regiments who had suffered greatly from yellow fever.

1954 – A request for bids on the construction of a new state bank building was issued.

1983 – Fire destroyed the Fountains Restaurant in the landmark Cuban Club building on Duval at the corner of Amelia Street.

1962 – The new Key West City Hall on Angela Street was dedicated. State Senator Elmer Friday of Fort Myers was the keynote speaker.

1934 – The Long Key Fishing Camp opened a week early for its 1935 season, and guests had already arrived.

1954 – The 53-unit Southernmost Motel at the corner of Duval and South streets was nearing completion.

1952 – Key West musician and Army veteran Edwar Weech surprised everyone at the V.F.W. Hall by playing a Christmas night saxophone solo.

1936 – Pena’s Garden of Roses held its grand opening. It was located on Thomas Street, behind the Monroe County Courthouse.

1954 – The Key West Chamber of Commerce opened an anti-noise campaign by sending letters to over 900 motorcycle and motor scooter owners.

1909 – The 102-ton schooner Annie Greenlaw was delivered to Key West turtle soup manufacturer Armand Granday.

1912 – President William H. Taft arrived in Key West via train.
