
1898 – The Monroe County Public Schools opened for the year with 1,227 students.
1924 – The drive along the new road running around the Key West Golf Club on Stock Island was described as one of the most beautiful in the area, with parts of the route “hemmed in by the woods and other parts skirting the waters off the bay.”
1960 – Kathleen Davison was sworn in as clerk and matron and as the first woman to serve on the Key West Police force.
1989 – In the Key West city elections, incumbent City Commissioner Jimmy Weekley was re-elected. The other two winners were John Robinson and Marty Arnold for the Utility Board. All other candidates faced a run-off election.
1995 – In the Key West city elections commissioners Sally Lewis and Harry Bethel were re-elected and Robert Padron won a seat on the Utility Board.
2004 – The Key West City Commission authorized the Art in Public Places Board to develop and install a $30,000 statue of the late Bishop Albert Kee at the Southernmost Point. The beloved clergyman had been a fixture at the point, where he had sold marine curios for decades.
