
1873 – The Alligator Reef Lighthouse was completed.
1907 – Coast Artillery companies were conducting target practice from Fort Taylor and other Key West batteries. Captain Grieg’s unit destroyed a target set 6,000 yards away with a 10-inch gun.
1939 – The Navy signed a one-year lease for Trumbo Point to use it as the Naval Air Station. The plans called for a large hangar, quarters for personnel and repairs to the seaplane ramp.
1948 – Fausto Castillo began construction of a new Fausto’s Store on Fleming Street at the corner of Bahama Street.
1951 – The Coral Shores School on Plantation Key was formally dedicated by Monroe County Schools Superintendent Horace O’Bryant. Captain George R. Rawlins, U.S. Army (Ret.) was guest speaker, and Principal Charles C. Albury was master of ceremonies.
1952 – Crown Princess Martha of Norway and her two daughters were visiting the Keys and Key West.
2009 – The 327-foot U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ingham arrived in Key West. The historic vessel, built in 1938 and with many ties to the Keys, would be docked along the Truman Waterfront and used for educational and cultural purposes.
