Dive into Reading - Summer Reading 2025

The Key West Library is excited to host the annual Summer Reading program, Dive Into Reading! Take a deep plunge into your favorite book or get swept away on the high seas of dynamic stories!


Summer Reading is a tradition that promotes reading for fun and prevents learning loss over the summer. MCPL offers enjoyable and educational events at our five branches to keep families reading all summer long! We host fun events & award prizes for all ages, from babies to teens; even caregivers can join in on the fun.


We have events throughout June and July, with great highlights such as:


  • Saturday, June 7, at 11 am: Come learn about corals with MOTE Marine Lab! Enjoy an Introduction to Corals with an accompanying art craft.

  • Saturday, June 14, at 10am: Patty's Primary Songs helps children master new concepts in early childhood development skills through music. More info at pattysprimarysongs.com.

  • Tuesday, June 17, at 11 am: Learn about 3D Printing, how a 3D printer works, what materials are used, and receive your own 3D printed item!

  • Saturday, June 21, 11 am: The Florida Keys SPCA will bring some furry friends and join us to speak about animal care, adoption, & more!

  • Saturday, June 28, 11 am: Melody Tuschel and Monroe County Recycling will present on recycling, food waste, composting, & more! Join us to plant your own milkweed seedling!

  • Thursday July 3rd at 2 pm: Windell Campbell the Puppeteer will perform a fun & engaging puppet show! More info at windell-campbell-storyteller.com

  • Saturday, July 5, at 11 am: Join Ranger Katy from the National Key Deer Refuge Team to learn about nature!

  • Saturday July 12, at 11 am: Key West Art and Historical Society will present on Florida Keys History! Catch a glimpse of Keys history, culture & more!

  • Saturday, July 19, at 11 am: Farmer Jeanne with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Animal Farm will be visiting with her animal friends!

  • Saturday, July 26, at 11 am: The Key West Fire Department is bringing their firetruck, talking about fire safety, and sharing how you can train to become a firefighter!


How to Participate:


  • Pick up a Reading Log each week from your library

  • Visit the library to check out books or download eBooks and eAudiobooks through Libby

  • Read at least 15-20 minutes every day and keep track on your Reading Log

  • Attend our weekly events and crafts

  • Listen to a lecture from one of our guest speakers every Saturday throughout the summer

  • Turn in your reading log each week to win a prize

  • Complete our Summer Reading Bingo for even more prizes

Don’t forget our year-round events, including:


  • Story Time, every Friday at 11 am for ages 6 and under! Join us for stories & crafts. Experience early literacy practices in action, discover great books & socialize with other caregivers!

  • Library Scouts, every Thursday in June & July at 3 pm for ages 6 to 12! Earn exciting badges while reading! Join us for activities to discover the wonders of science, technology, engineering, arts, & math (STEAM).

  • Lignum Vitae Letter Writing Club, third Wednesday of the month at 3 pm. Write topical letters, such as thank you notes, congratulations, or holiday cards, practice handwriting, & learn how to address envelopes! Supplies provided.

  • Jewelry Class on the fourth Friday in June & July for ages 8 to 18. Create wearable jewelry with the help of an instructor while meeting new friends! All skill levels welcome & all materials provided.




Please be aware that our programs may have high attendance numbers. Please allot time to find street parking as the Key West library parking lot may be full. The Key West Library is a stop on the free Duval Loop bus route.
