1864 – Henry Hamilton and Darius Stokes, members of the 2nd USCT, were executed at Key West, probably by a firing squad, for mutiny that occurred at Ship Island, Mississippi, in December 1863.

1926 – Joe Knight of Key West brought in the first kingfish of the season, which was taken as a sure sign that winter was coming and would soon bring snowbird visitors to the Keys.

1946 – Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz arrived for a two-day inspection of the Key West Naval Base. While on the island, he was to review anti-submarine development and training facilities.

1966 – Temperatures were in the low 50s across the Keys, which caused grumbling amongst local sheriff’s deputies and policemen as they were still wearing their summer short sleeves and would not be issued their winter uniforms for a few more weeks.

1974 – The City Commission passed two ordinances that prohibited high-rise buildings in Key West.
