The second annual Key West BookFest, recognizing the literary heritage of the community and featuring local authors, will be held Saturday, November 15, from 10 am until 1 pm in the Key West Library Palm Garden, 700 Fleming Street. This free event promises to appeal to all book lovers.
BookFest attendees will have a unique and exciting opportunity to meet and speak with local Florida authors, many of whom write about Key West. Books will be available for autograph and purchase. This year’s lineup includes almost two dozen authors:

Kim Rinaldi, Senior Branch Manager of the Key West Library, and Betty Darst of the Friends of the Key West Library had a vision of a festival-type event for book lovers.

“Key West bursts with street fairs and festivals throughout the year and we wanted to host something similar at the library where local authors could showcase their work,“ said Rinaldi. “BookFest provides a platform for writers the same way Seafood Fest showcases the fishing culture here in Key West. Writers have always been a part of Key West scene and it’s time they had an event too.”
BookFest will feature an open mic where writers will present short readings and interesting anecdotes from their stories. Steven Allerton on the harp will serenade festgoers throughout the event. Refreshments will be served.

Inside the library, visit with Dr. Corey Malcom in the Florida Keys History Center and view a special exhibit of original manuscripts and historical documents from the library’s vault. Stop by the Friends of the Library membership table to pick up a Speaker Series brochure, the Café con Libros schedule, and to join/renew your annual Friends membership.
The Key West Library is grateful for the support of this event by the Friends of the Key West Library, Books & Books of Key West, Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, Truman Little White House, and Old Town Bakery, all local institutions committed to preserving and promoting the rich literary history of Key West.
