Islamorada Library Branch Celebrates Its Diamond Jubilee

Sixty years ago, a poured concrete structure that had already served the Islamorada community for decades began a new life: As the Islamorada branch of the Monroe County Public Library.
It has now served generations of Islamorada residents with books for all ages, programs, Internet access, and more. We will be celebrating the branch and the community it serves with a special series of programs on Tuesday evenings in November.
Dr. Corey Malcom, lead historian at the library's Florida Keys History Center, will talk about the rich history of the Islamorada community and the library that has served it for more than half a century.
Islamorada Area State Parks will be in the community room to talk about Lignumvitea Key Botanical State Park and their Christmas event. They will also be hosting a period craft for you to enjoy.
Former Monroe County Film Commissioner Rita Troxel and Location Manager Maria Chavez will take us behind the scenes for the filming of "Bloodline," the Netflix show that was set in and filmed largely in and around Islamorada from 2014-2017.
Dr. Jerry Lorenz, retired research director for Audubon of Florida, will be in the community room to talk to us about the history of conservation in the Upper Keys and big pink birds (flamingos & spoonbills)
