1935 – A film crew from Pathé News was in Key West to film interesting aspects of the island. On this date, they documented Raul’s Aquarium on Roosevelt Boulevard.

1976 – A new cupola for a community clock was placed atop the restored tower at Key West’s Old City Hall on Greene St. The design was faithful to the building’s original 1892 construction.

1958 – With a fare of 90 cents per passenger, the first Conch Tour Train rolled onto the streets of Key West under the ownership of Bill and Olive Kroll.

1925 – The Norwegian steamship Capto arrived in Key West via the Panama Canal to discharge a cargo of 5 million feet of lumber from British Columbia. It was one of the largest lumber shipments in island history.

1955 – Southern Bell Telephone Company installed new dial equipment that gave all 8,700 phones in Key West new numbers.

1917 – The first long-distance telephone connection from Key West was made to Miami at 1:47 p.m.

1940 – The East Martello Tower was opened to tourists. Boys employed by the National Youth Administration served as guides.
