1946 – The Aerovias Q airlines building at Meacham Airfield in Key West was broken into overnight and most of its furnishing – chairs, rugs, lamps, and fans – were stolen. The theft was a setback for the Cuba-based airline’s Key West operation, which had just opened.

1918 – Private Arthur B. Sawyer, U.S. Marine Corps, was killed in action in France. He was the first Key Wester to die in battle in World War I.

1958 – Famed band leader Guy Lombardo announced he was buying the Shamrock Restaurant and Key Colony Beach Club from Phil Sadowski. Lombardo said the Florida Keys should expect to see more of him and his band, the Royal Canadians.

2010 – Nearly 200 Key West residents met with city staff to offer ideas for the development of 6.6 acres of land in Truman Waterfront Park. Creating an open green space and turning a former Navy mess hall into a community center were the leading choices.

1953 – The Arthur Sawyer Post 28, American Legion, asked the City of Key West for permission to buy the land where their clubhouse sat.
