Homeschool Learning Activities at the Marathon Library Branch

Many of the homeschool families in the Florida Keys call the Marathon Library their classroom on Thursday mornings. We not only offer educational opportunities for the kids but a place for the parents to socialize and interact with each other. Each week we welcome children Kindergarten and Pre-school age at 10 am then first grade and up at 11 am.

October 23: Halloween spooky stories
By writing and reciting spooky stories, kids will:
Enhance their understanding of literary elements such as characterization, foreshadowing, and theme
Learn about suspense, spooky twists, and sinister characters that draw them in
Gain a deeper appreciation for the craft of storytelling and the impact of literary devices on the narrative
Practice speaking and presenting in front of a group
October 30: Halloween crafts
Halloween crafts provide a fun and engaging way for children to express their creativity while also gaining educational benefits such as:
Fine motor skills
Storytelling

Vocabulary and spelling skills
November 6: Board games
Board games are more than just fun! They teach kids:
Important social skills like how to take turns, cooperate, and communicate effectively

November 13: Thanksgiving craft
