About the band:
Pia Leinonen, originally from the arctic region of Lapland, is Vellamo’s lead singer. Her exquisite voice combines her love and vast knowledge of Finnish folk music with the western singer–songwriter tradition in a unique and beautiful way.

Poetry Workshop in the Palm Garden — Mar. 13-17 9:30a-12:30p

This workshop is geared to anyone interested in writing new poetry, regardless of experience or publication history. Each workshop will consist of: reading established poets’ poems for inspiration (and to invite the spirit of writing to our group); presentation of prompt(s); time to write; time to share what we have written; time for discussion/field questions regarding craft and/or po’-bis’ (the business aspect of poetry–publishing one’s work, organizing a reading, etc.).

Texas Poets Laureate Karla K. Morton and Alan Birkelbach, both award-winning writers with eleven published books, will travel to Florida’s Dry Tortugas National Park February 15-21, 2017 as part of Words of Preservation: A Poets Laureate National Parks Tour, a 3-year joint arts project the two poets launched last year during the National Park System’s 100 year anniversary. They will visit 50 or more of the 59 U.S. National Parks during the tour, documenting their journey through poetry and photography, ultimately creating one or more books. Their plan is to …
