September Cinematheque: Old Worlds, New Vision

Sci-fi film nerds unite! September’s Cinematheque theme is “Old Worlds, New Vision.” We’ll be screening the latest reimaginings of “Star Wars” and “Star Trek,” the twin pillars of the space movie genre. This Week in Story Time

Ms. Melody entertains children twice a week in “Story Time,” which includes lively book readings, sing-alongs, and the occasional craft. She has been dreaming up some entertaining themes for upcoming “Story Time” gatherings that are guaranteed to catch your little one’s attention! At this Tuesday’s “Story Time” for babies at 9:30 a.m. (September 5), the theme is “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.” Ms. Melody will read “You Are a Lion! and Other Fun Yoga Poses” by Taeeun Yoo and sing and play games that identify body parts. Relaxing Art of Coloring (NEW TIME!)

Starting September 12, Marathon Branch is offering “The Relaxing Art of Coloring” for adults on Tuesdays at a new time: 1 p.m. (NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO COLORING SESSION ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5.) We will provide coloring books and pencils and a quiet space for you to focus on the pages. Research suggests that coloring provides the same therapeutic benefits as meditation. We welcome you to join us, zone in on your art and enjoy the relaxation.

Have Your Say in Our New Library!

This image shows the spiffy design of our new two-floor library building. The new building will be located at the corner of 35th Street and the Overseas Highway, on the former site of the Monroe County School District’s Adult Education Center, and will house both the Marathon Branch and the Adult Education Center.
