Classical Music Concert: This Wednesday, February 1st at 7PM

Key West Public Library is pleased to host a performance by The Cremona Trio, on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m.
The trio, violinist James Gaskill, former Concertmaster of the American Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall, cellist Shana Sear Gaskill, performer at the famous Lincoln Center, and pianist James Fogle, Ph.D. in Music from the University of North Carolina, will perform works by Beethoven, Corelli, and Mendelssohn.  This free event is open to the public. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday

In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the libraries will be closed on Monday, January 16th.
We will reopen Tuesday, January 17th at 9:30a.m.

Celebrate our Freedom to Read

Celebrate the power of literature and read a banned book
What would you do if you went to the library to check out a book, only to find it wasn’t there? Not because it was already checked out, but because someone else didn’t agree with its content and had it removed. According to the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom , there were 275 reported attempts to remove materials from libraries this past year, making this situation all too familiar in some communities across the U.S.

This week we are celebrating the books of Eric Carle.  Carle  was born June 25, 1929, he is an American designer, illustrator, and writer of children’s books. He is most famous for The Very Hungry Caterpillar, a picture book with few words that has been translated into more than 62 languages and sold more than 52 million copies.

Feeling crafty?
We are so fortunate to have Robin Forte coming here for a return visit to the Islamorada Library on June 7 and June 14 from 10:00 – 1:00 to teach basket weaving classes.
Learn how to weave beautiful pine needle baskets like the ancient art of the Seminoles.  $15 (a one time charge) will cover all basket supplies. It generally takes two classes to make one basket.
