Everyone’s a critic

Posted Oct 4, 2015 Posted by One Comment

Reviews by readers are all the rage these days and for good reason — they often provide the sort of feedback you want most:  the opinions of fellow readers. Now you can post your own reviews of books in our library catalog — and read reviews by fellow library patrons and 1.3 million members of the book site LibraryThing.

To get started: visit the library catalog and find a title you want to review — for example, The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Under the image of the book’s cover, on the left hand side, you’ll see a link that says “see reviews/add a review.” Click that linkto read reviews from readers at libraries all over the country, provided by LibraryThing. And you’ll see a link that says “review this yourself.” When you click there, you’ll be guided into setting up a review account — that’s different from your library account and it’s even different from your LibraryThing account, if you have one. Then you can write your review and submit it for posting.

You can see a couple examples of reviews submitted by Monroe County readers (who also happen to be library staffers) here (for a nonfiction book) and here (for a novel). We know lots of you have opinions about what you read. Join in and share them — with us and with readers all over the country.
