Getting a Library Card

Library cards, which may be used at all County libraries, are available at no cost to all residents of the Monroe County taxing district.

The following items may be used as proof of residency:

  • Valid Florida Drivers License or Identification Card with a Monroe County address
  • Military Identification Card

If the photo ID is not from Monroe County the following may be used to prove residency:

  • Pay stub from local business with Monroe county address for the person
  • Utility Bill with Monroe county address
  • Lease/rental agreement for local residence
  • Time Share or Property Tax form for local residence
  • Bank or credit card statement with Monroe County address for account holder
  • Personal checks with Monroe county address for account holder
  • Voter registration card with Monroe County address
  • Telephone listing in current local telephone directory

    Hello! We will be visiting Key West in March. We have a vacation rental from March 18-31. We are HUGE library fans and would like to know if we can get a temporary membership (card) to the Key West library. We are longtime library users in Seattle, Washington and have used (temporarily) many other libraries in the US and the UK and have found the experience very rewarding. Thank you for your assistance.

    I too will be visiting for nearly a month and was hoping to use the library in Key West. My daughter lives there – could I use her card? I think a temporary card is a great idea.

    A family member may give us permission to let you use their card. Just have them come in with you the first time, and we’ll add a note to their account.

    I can’t find my library card and am traveling. How can I get info to borrow eBooks? I have my drivers license with me…..
